Boston University School of Public Health: "Remember Every One" — Memorializing the More Than 1 Million Lives Lost to COVID-19 in the US
In a March 2025 feature, Boston University School of Public Health profiled Marked by COVID Co-Founder Christine Keeves (SPH'08) in a wide-ranging Q&A about the organization's past, present, and future. Keeves discussed the launch of the Remember Every One campaign on COVID Memorial Day 2025, the organization's effort to collect names, photos, and stories for all 1.2 million Americans lost to COVID-19, and the vision for a permanent augmented reality National COVID Memorial in Washington, D.C. The article also highlighted Marked by COVID's partnership with BU associate professor Andrew Stokes, whose research revealed that federal statistics undercounted thousands of COVID deaths, and the memorial's recent installation at Harvard Medical School's Countway Library.
Keeves spoke about how the organization's advocacy has expanded to include California's HOPE trust accounts, which will provide $4,500 to children who lost a parent to COVID, and how collecting remembrances helps identify eligible families. She noted that more than 250 cities and over a dozen states now mark COVID Memorial Day, with legislation pending in both chambers of Congress. Read the full article at BU School of Public Health.
