Rep. Stanton Leads House Effort to Establish COVID-19 Victims and Survivors Memorial Day

On February 25, 2021, Representative Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) announced the introduction of a House Resolution to establish the first Monday in March as "COVID-19 Victims and Survivors Memorial Day." Stanton partnered with Marked by COVID Co-Founder Kristin Urquiza and organization advocate Tara Krebbs—both Arizonans who lost their fathers to COVID-19—to organize congressional support for the resolution. Their advocacy had already secured recognition of COVID Memorial Day from more than 100 cities and dozens of states.

"We must create a collective public memory that encapsulates the unvarnished truth of what happened and why," Kristin Urquiza said in the announcement. The resolution was introduced as members of the House gathered on the steps of the Capitol to light candles in vigil for those lost. Read the full press release.
