Senators Warren and Markey Reintroduce Resolution to Establish COVID-19 Victims Memorial Day

On March 6, 2023, U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) reintroduced a Senate resolution to designate the first Monday in March as "COVID-19 Victims Memorial Day." Representative Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) reintroduced the companion resolution in the U.S. House. The resolution, first introduced in August 2021, recognizes the more than 1.1 million Americans lost to COVID-19 and the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on low-income communities and communities of color.

Marked by COVID was named as a supporting organization in the official announcement. "We must mark our losses together to brace against a nation's crushing sadness," said Co-Founder Kristin Urquiza in the press release. "We are unified in our commitment to observe Covid Memorial Day—and remember people like my dad Mark—on the first Monday of March, in perpetuity." Read the full press release.
